Whale Parade & Family Day | August 1, 2021
Seafront Oval | 1pm – 6:30pm
The Whale Parade is a colourful street parade that comprises of people of all ages coming together, dressed in festive-wear and sporting impressive floats in honour of the humpback whales annual migration. All are welcome to join in on the parade.
The parade will take place at the intersection of Franks Street & Charlton Esplanade, starting at 2:30pm and will proceed along the Esplanade to Seafront Oval, Pialba. Parade-goers are asked to gather at the marshalling area on Freshwater St (between Denmans Camp Rd & Queens Rd) beforehand.
The parade will reach Seafront Oval where the Family Day will kick off in full swing, with activities starting from 1pm. The family day will include welcoming the much-loved parade as they cross the finish line, the homecoming of the Dunga Derby, live music, children’s entertainment and rides, and plenty of food vendors to go around.
The theme for this years parade is “Splash”, all entries including walk groups must register their participation here.
If it’s a creature that can be found in the waters of Hervey Bay then we want to see it on your floats – from humpback whales to dugongs, sea turtles, stingrays, dolphins, prawns, fish and more! Be creative, be imaginative and have a whale of a time!
Entrants need to consider the impact on our natural environment when building their floats & displays, please no plastics or tinsel.
All entries will be judged against the following criteria:
- Technical Execution
- Theme & Design
- Entertainment Value
- Environmental Focus
Winners will be announced during the Whale Festival Family Day.
