Blessing of the Fleet | July 31, 2021
Join us on Saturday 31 July for Hervey Bay’s traditional Blessing of the Fleet which signals the beginning of the whale watching season. The Blessing of the Fleet is a centuries old tradition believed to have originated in Mediterranean communities to ensure a safe and prosperous season to all vessels.
The line up:
4:00pm – Official Opening begins – entertainment from Jon Vea Vea begins along with kids activities brought to you by Wide Bay Mobile Entertainers
5:00pm – Butchulla Welcome to Country & Performance by Burrad Butchulla Dance crew
5:15pm – Aloha Mai E chant by Leandra Gurbiel
5:25pm – Welcome speech from Mayor George Seymour
5:30pm – Hervey Bay’s impressive Whale Fleet will commence the annual sail past. The fleet includes:
The impressive fireworks display, sponsored by Wide Bay Sound will begin from 7pm weather permitting.
Along with some of Hervey Bay’s most delicious restaurants and cafe’s residing at the Great Sandy Straits Marina, food vendors will also be available at the Blessing of the Fleet. Check out the food vendors below:
